HISTORY:

The first ART IN THE PARK WITH MUSIC was held in Susana Park in 1969. The original idea of an annual art event was introduced by a group of Martinez Arts Association charter members comprised of Betty Tesche, Lorraine Laird, Doris Heckert-Hall, & Alex Cooper. The organization was later joined by Barbara Amspoker who became Chairman of Art in the Park  with Music in 1972 and was joined by her Co-Chairman Vi Spowart in 1974. In the late 1970’s Doris Heckert-Hall replaced Vi and she and Barbara remained chairmen until the 27th annual Art in the Park with Music in 1996. At that time the “torch” was passed to MAA President Dorrie Langley & is now a joint venture for the whole board of directors. At present, the list of volunteers has become extensive, but you know who you are–so brag!

After years of donating the proceeds from Art in the Park to community artistic endeavors, in 1984 MAA established a 10-year grant of $5,000 to the Martinez Unified School District. This commitment has become annual and now includes the Art Scholarship Program.  Art in the Park sustains this support.

So, many many thanks to community businesses and organizations, MAA members, their families, City of Martinez, and all the volunteers for providing a great show year after year.

Specials for MAA members
Art in the Park – regular booths are $85 each, but current members can pay on $50 for their own 10 x10 booth!
