.2019 ... the 6th Year of the Festival of the Altars in Martinez

Sponsored by the Martinez Arts Association

Through art, music and a display of community altars, the festival is a celebration of life honoring those who have passed away. Artists create personal altars to share during the festival.

There was a nicho (small altar) workshop at the Martinez Library on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Dia de los Muertos - 2018 Festival of Altars, sponsored by Martinez Arts Association and Artcelerator - fifth annual event!

Martinez celebrated Dia de los Muertos Festival of the Altars on Saturday, November 3rd. Through art, music and a display of community altars, the festival is a celebration of life honoring those who have passed away. Artists created personal altars to share during the festival. For the third year in a row we presented Martha Gutierrez’s Baile Folklorico, a cultural dance representing the various regions of Mexico. The crowd also enjoyed the Aztec dancer group for the second year in a row.

Many visitors to the event dressed in traditional Dia de los Muertos motif and brought photographs of loved ones who have passed away to place on community altars.

Co-sponsored by Martinez Arts Association and Artcelerator.
Face painting sponsored by Citrus Salon.
We hope to have even more community participation next year, with many more altars.
